Building Conservation Craftsman Temporary Position

Västernorrlands Museum is seeking a temporary building conservation craftsman

Västernorrlands Museum has a mission to preserve, develop, and make accessible the county's cultural heritage and cultural environments. The museum's activities are extensive and include exhibitions, programs, and collection management. Archaeology, conservation, and building antiquarian activities are important parts of the museum's outward-facing cultural environment work in the county.

The museum building and Murberget open-air museum are located in Härnösand; the museum also includes other culturally valuable environments - Gammelgården in Myckelgensjö, Ulvö old chapel, and the EW cottage.

One of our regular craftsmen will be on parental leave, so we are now looking for a replacement. The tasks will primarily involve maintenance and restoration work at Murberget open-air museum and at the museum's other properties.

You will be part of a team with antiquarians, project managers, and craftsmen from the museum. In addition to maintenance and renovation work, there will be other museum technical tasks and collaboration in the museum's activities. The work also includes some public activities for educational purposes.

Qualification Requirements

· Post-secondary education in construction/carpentry with a focus on cultural conservation, or secondary education combined with several years of documented experience in construction/carpentry with a focus on cultural conservation

· Category B driver's license.

· Experience with cultural conservation interior and exterior restoration.

Meritorious

· Experience with timber framing and traditional building methods.

· Specialized knowledge in specific areas such as sheet metal work or masonry

· Tractor license, Hot work training, Lift license, Scaffolding license
